Southwest Pediatric Associates is happy to announce we are now able to provide prescriptions for controlled substances through electronic prescription to your pharmacy. These are sent similarly to any other electronic prescription, but with additional security measures as required by the Federal Drug Administration.
Until recently, families have had to physically pick up a hard-copy prescription on a monthly basis and deliver it personally to their pharmacy. The process was complicated by the fact that these prescriptions expire in a short period of time, and because insurance carriers often require only 30 days to be dispensed at a time. We have surveyed families about the possibility of electronically prescribing their medications, and an overwhelming number have expressed a desire to participate.
We now can send these prescriptions electronically saving these pick up/drop off/timing hassles for our families. Unfortunately the costs associated with this program are substantial and we need to pass on a nominal fee to families who wish to participate to try to mitigate these costs. The program fee will be $30/child annually and will last for 2 years. At the end of the 2 year period, if your child continues to need the medication, one of our staff members will contact you to ask if you would like to renew.
