Southwest Pediatrics offers trusted after-hours pediatric appointments for both new and established patients. We’re here when fevers spike at bedtime, stomach aches start after school, or symptoms show up unexpectedly.

We commonly treat:

  • RSV, flu, and COVID symptoms
  • Fever
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Cough and congestion
  • Minor Injuries

Evening and weekend appointments are available at multiple locations across Austin Health Partners family of clinics. Most families choose the clinic closest to home but all AHP patients can be seen at any location.

After Hours FAQ

We know that illnesses and minor injuries don’t always happen during regular office hours. That’s why we offer after hours appointments to provide your child with the care they need when it matters most.

  • Convenient Care Clinic:
    • Monday – Friday: 5 pm – 9 pm
    • Saturday: 12 pm – 8 pm
    • Sunday: 10 am – 6 pm

What We Treat After Hours

Our Convenient Care appointments are for urgent concerns, including:

  • Fevers
  • Minor injuries
  • Acute illnesses
  • Sports physicals

Scheduling: Appointments are available online or by phone. We screen all sick children by phone before scheduling an in-person visit.

What We Do Not Offer During Extended Hours

To ensure the best care for your child, we do not provide the following during extended hours:

  • Vaccinations or well-child visits
  • Care for chronic conditions or behavioral concerns, which are best managed by your child’s regular pediatrician

We are here to support your family with accessible, high-quality care when you need it most.

We know that questions about your child’s health don’t always arise during regular office hours. That’s why we offer after-hours support to ensure you have guidance when you need it.

  • Convenient Care (After Hours): Remember that visits are available 7 days per week and are the best way to get accurate, comprehensive information about your child’s condition.  Simply make an appointment online or by calling.
  • After Convenient Care Closes: After our clinic closes for the day, we partner with Triage For Pediatrics to provide advice.  These are registered nurses who use protocols we approve. If there’s anything outside of their protocols, they’ll call the provider on call to verify next steps.  There is a $30 fee for these calls which help cover the costs of the service, but it’s not meant to discourage you from calling!  If you’re worried about your child, we encourage you to call.

We understand that what feels like a minor concern to a pediatrician can feel like an emergency to a parent. Your peace of mind is important to us, and we encourage you to call if you’re deeply worried about your child or cannot rest comfortably without additional guidance.

To help you decide whether to call after hours or wait until morning, here are some guidelines:

Please call us after hours if:

  • You feel uncomfortable with your child’s condition and do not think it can wait until the next day.
  • Your infant (under 3 months of age) has a fever greater than 100.4°F (rectally). This is considered a life-threatening emergency.
  • There has been a serious accident or emergency.
  • Your child is experiencing:
    • Severe breathing difficulties (working hard to breathe, severe chest pain, persistent wheezing, pale skin).
    • Sharp abdominal pain lasting more than 2 hours.
    • Bleeding that will not stop.
    • Persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration, such as:
      • Decreased urine output.
      • Listlessness.
      • Inability to tolerate sips of clear fluid after 2–4 hours of tummy rest.
  • You think your child needs to be seen in an Emergency Room or Urgent Care but aren’t sure which option is best. We’re happy to guide you in making this decision.

For infants under 4–6 months of age or any child requiring overnight hospitalization, we will refer you to Dell Children’s Hospital.
